reasons for everything

I always knew there was a reason that I hadn't dated anyone. I logically knew this, and yet somewhere deep inside there always was this question of why am I different from everyone else? I think on of the puzzel pieces fell into place today when I was in my relationship class.

We were talking about traits that have been shown to contribute to a successful marriage. And we were talking about the top things we look for in a potential mate. I have always had high standards for a potential mate. And there are a few things that I am completely unwilling to compromise on (i.e. a relationship with Jesus). As we were sitting there, my professor mentioned that one time he had his students write out the top 5 characteristics they want in a mate and then compare it to their current partner.

He said that a shocking number of the students had less than half of the characteristics in their current partner. That was when I realized it. I have never dated because I never found anyone who was up to my standards (and single and interested), and I was unwilling to settle for less. I know that God has someone amazing in store for me, and I am so looking forward to my future life with him.

Also the sun was shining today and the sky was clear and it was warm and it just made me want to bask and revel in the sunshine. God is good!!

Well, I need to get to bed because I have a 6 hour drive tomorrow and a crazy weekend ahead of me.

peace

I've thought a lot about peace this week, and all week I've tried to come up with the words to say what I feel in my soul. I am weary. My heart mourns because there is so much dissension and violence in our world. There is so little peace.  The hosts of heaven announced the arrival of the Messiah with shouts of Glory to God in the Highest and Peace on Earth. I think sometimes we forget that people during this time frame had a very different version of peace than we think of today. The shepherds who heard this announcement would have been well aware of the Pax Romana: the Peace of Rome.  You see, Rome had a great and terrible weapon to enforce their peace. You threaten the peace; you die. And not just any death, but a public, humiliating, and excruciatingly painful death. accomplishment

You know that sense of accomplishment when it really sinks in that you actually just did whatever you did. Like the first time you tie your shoes all by yourself. Or when you ride your bike without training wheels for the first time. Or when you drive you car without your mom or dad in it. Or when you make your first flight by yourself. Or when you move to a city where nothing is familiar and start a life there. Or when you finish your last class of your undergraduate college. Yep...that's what I did about an hour ago. I finished my last college class. I have one paper and 2 finals standing between me and graduation, but I will be graduating (New Zealand here I come!!) in a week and a day.
