started yesterday. . .finished today
Yesterday: Ah, Sunday, how wonderful you are--especially with lovely warm temperatures and delicious sunshine. I'm a bit tired today because I was going to take a Sunday afternoon nap, but by the time I had time to do so, it was really quite late for me to take a nap. I'll just go to bed early, maybe.
Okay, can I just tell you a quick story about how wonderfully faithful and what an amazing Provider God is? He is the most faithful and incredible Provider. So last Monday I quit my job. I filled out an application that day at TGI Fridays. I had an interview on Wednesday. I had another one on Friday which was followed by a job offer. I fill out my paperwork on Tuesday and start training on Wednesday. Before my two weeks are even going to be up I have another job. How awesome is God to provide me with that?! Yes, quite awesome indeed!
I have been resting in God quite a lot the last couple of days. I have just felt very heavy and weighed down by some of the stuff that built up from work over the last couple of weeks. I feel like I am kind of going through detox from that, allowing God to clean away all the gunk.
Okay, I am finally going to delve into some of my observations from Ruth. I have finally moved onto chapter 3 after spending quite a while in chapter 2. There is just so much in chapter 2.
Today: I had every intention of finishing and posting this blog last night, but that just didn't happen, so this is a two day blog, and I will finish it as I enjoy my afternoon tea and shortbread. Okay, so for some thoughts on Ruth 2. I have read this passage countless times, yet I love how I am always able to get something new out of it. That, my friends, is the power of the living, active Word of God!
"When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, 'Let her glean, even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. And also pull out some from the bundles for her and leave it for her to glean and do not rebuke her.' So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley." - Ruth 2:15-17
I read these verses so many times and every time thought how great it was that Boaz would provide for Ruth in this manner. He goes above and beyond to make sure that Ruth will be able to glean far more than she ever would have been able to elsewhere. But then one day I was reading this passage and God gave me an interesting question to answer. What if Ruth hadn't been persistent and worked hard to glean as much as she could?
An interesting question, indeed. With an answer that carries incredible implications. If Ruth had not been a hard worker and had not been persistent in gleaning, Boaz's gesture would have been lost. He provided for her, but it was her discipline in working that gave her the benefit from his generosity. Boaz knew that she was a hard worker, so he provided for her in a way that he knew she would receive the benefit of his provision.
In the same way God provides for us in ways that we will receive the benefit from working hard at the tasks set before us. God has been making more and more clear to me that He is my Provider. This year has been an amazing year of me seeing His provision for me in very clear and distinct ways. I am so glad that God who is abundantly Faithful is my Provider always.
